Paul Scholes reign at Boundary Park as Oldham Athletic manager started in the best possible way with his Latics side running out convincing winners against Yeovil Town.
Goals from Jose Baxter, Callum Lang, Mohammed Maouche and Christopher Missilou secured the three points in a 4-1 win over the Glovers with Bevis Mugabi scoring their consolation goal.
The win moves Oldham up into 11th position in League Two just six points off a play off place with a game in hand. Defeat leaves Yeovil fourth from bottom, two points from the relegation places.Embed from Getty Images
Scholes said: “It was nice, but it’s just a start. That’s all it is. I know there are tougher tests ahead, starting with Saturday against Crewe, who are going really well.
“4-1 doesn’t reflect how difficult the night was. Yeovil made it difficult for us.
“I’m really pleased with the goals. I said in my press conference on Monday that I knew there was talent in this squad.
“I want them to enjoy and express themselves and the way you do that is by scoring goals.”
Scholes will be hoping his side can continue the impressive start with victory at home to mid table Crewe Alexandra on Saturday. Yeovil now travel to Forest Green Rovers who currently sit in the last play off place.
