HTP Podcast 3: Barnsley FC

Welcome to the third episode of the Half Time Pie podcast. In this episode we speak to Barnsley fan John Newsome who has written for the site previously. John talks us through his time watching the reds from the late 1970`s to present day.

John talks about the days of Ian Banks, Ronnie Glavin and Mick McCarthy to his memories of celebrating promotion to the Premier League. There are tales of kidnapping his mate taking him from his wife and down to Watford for a midweek away game to a being thrown over the turnstiles at Oakwell as a kid. It is well worth a listen.

  1. Yes I did play for Raith Rovers and we beat Celtic in the Cup and the same year won the First Division Championship. We played in Europe the following season and got through first two rounds before going out to the winners that year, Bayern Munich. We were actually winning at half time in the Olympic Stadium.
I loved it at Barnsley but was moved on by the new Manager Mel Machin.
Alan Clarke was brilliant at Barnsley as my Manager and still in contact with him.
    Thank you for the memories.
